Shrink partition server 2003 Diskpart

As an upgrade for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 has many advantages over the previous version. The improvement of Disk Management may be the most obvious change in Windows Server 2008: “Shrink Volume” feature and “Extend Volume” feature are added to Disk Management. Since Disk Management is not useful when users want to reduce partition size in Windows Server 2003, they should seek other ways available. Some people suggested Windows Server 2003 users to shrink partition in Windows Server 2003 with Diskpart. How’s that suggestion?

Our answer is: it’s not a good method for server partition resize. Two reasons can roughly explain the reason why Diskpart is not a wonderful tool for server partition shrinking: the operating operations are quite difficult for ordinary users; Diskpart doesn’t focus too much on data protection. As a result, to shrink partition in Windows Server 2003 with Diskpart is definitely not a good idea. Well, is there a better way to reduce partition size? Of course, there is – adopt MiniTool Partition Wizard for server partition shrinking.

Don’t Shrink Partition in Windows Server 2003 with Diskpart

Powerful as Diskpart is, it is not an ideal tool for ordinary people to well manage disks and partitions. MiniTool Partition Wizard has almost all functions that can be found in Diskpart and more importantly, the interfaces are very clear and the operations are easy to finish even for green hands.

Here’s how to shrink partition in Windows Server 2003:

Step one: finish downloading and installation of MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition and launch it immediately. (Please don’t install the software to the partition which needs shrinking)

Step two: select the partition you want to shrink and then click “Move/Resize Partition” function from left action panel. After doing this, you will enter the operating interface shown below.

Adjust-size-and-location

Step three: drag the black triangles on both ends of partition handle to shrink selected partition as you like. You can also drag the partition handle leftwards or rightwards to change the location of selected partition. At the end of this step, click “OK” to go back to main interface.

Click-Apply-button

Step four: when you find the size of partition selected in step two has been reduced in the way you want, you are supposed to click “Apply” button in the upper left so as to put an end to server partition resize.

We bet no one would like to shrink partition in Windows Server 2003 with Diskpart anymore after reading above content. Now, please purchase a server edition without hesitation if you’re running a server system.
